Police Warning - Remove It, Lock It OR Lose It

Victoria Police is conducting high visibility foot patrols and educating the community to help prevent opportunistic thieves this summer.

Simple measures can be taken to improve your safety.  Leading Senior Constable Scott Sutton advises -

  • When using public transport, valuables such as wallets, mobile phones, PSP’s and I-PODS should be kept secure and out of sight.
  • If you feel uncomfortable with a person near you then change carriages - Always wait in well lit areas or areas under surveillance.
  • Do not listen to I-PODs when you are walking around, as you will not hear if someone is sneaking up behind you. If you are arriving late at night to a train station, arrange to have someone waiting to collect you.

Victoria Police also warns

  • not to leave valuables in sight no matter where you are, including in your car, on top of a shopping trolley, on a counter or hanging on the back of a seat in a restaurant, theatre, hall or on public transport
  • In restaurants put your bag on the floor between your feet and put your foot on or through the strap so that you can feel if the bag is moved
  • When planning a day at the beach take what you need and do not leave valuables unattended while you go swimming.

Asking for help when you feel unsafe is not foolish.

If you need to report a crime or suspicious behaviour, do not hesitate to call Triple Zero (000) for police attendance.
