Help keep your children safe by teaching them a few basic safety precautions:
Their full name, phone number and address including the state they live in.
When to call 000 and how to dial the number.
How to use a mobile phone, normal house phone and a pay phone.
How to identify a 'safe' adult ie police officer, security guard or teacher.
Don’t talk to or accept rides from strangers.
Encourage them to use a buddy system where they walk and play with friends and classmates.
Designate a ‘safe spot’ in your neighbourhood ie trusted friend’s house to go to in case of emergency.
Teach them about their neighbourhood and any areas of concern they should avoid ie poorly lit areas, lane-ways or short cuts 'off the beaten track'.
Here are some helpful and fun ways for children to learn about crime prevention and safety in the community.
