Child Safety

Help keep your children safe by teaching them a few basic safety precautions:
  • Their full name, phone number and address including the state they live in.
  • When to call 000 and how to dial the number.
  • How to use a mobile phone, normal house phone and a pay phone.
  • How to identify a 'safe' adult ie police officer, security guard or teacher.
  • Don’t talk to or accept rides from strangers.
  • Encourage them to use a buddy system where they walk and play with friends and classmates.
  • Designate a ‘safe spot’ in your neighbourhood  ie trusted friend’s house to go to in case of emergency.
  • Teach them about their neighbourhood and any areas of concern they should avoid ie poorly lit areas, lane-ways or short cuts 'off the beaten track'.
